NHS Choice

The NHS 'Choice' initiative allows patients to choose where they have their eye care. This can be in both a ‘traditional’ NHS hospital or a Private hospital. To be seen in a Private hospital requires funding agreement from your Primary care trust (GP funding groups).

I see NHS patients at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds.

I see Private patients and some NHS patients at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital.

Why have Private Treatment?

• You will be seen by a consultant rather than a trainee.
• Always seen by the same person so allowing continuity of care.
• Appointments are 30 minutes for new and 15 minutes for follow up.
• Comfortable uncrowded clinic areas.
• A Consultant will perform your operation. Cataract surgery will typically take around15 minutes.
• Over 99% surgically uncomplicated.
• Only 1 week between first and second eye operations.
• Choose your date of surgery.
• Choice of lenses not available on the NHS. Some lenses give freedom from glasses.
• Available to everyone – self pay or insured options.
• Free parking.
